lyrics
The community roses like a prayer for
collective consciousness attempt to will
what happens here to be remembered well
like each night that dad blacked out
but the photos that prove we were happy
and each teacher’s invitation
but sent with purest intentions
and each red room with him
another chance to feel like less of an orphan
A moment to cherish, or another dried bud
upon the worn altar of the power of positive thinking?
Is this a position to be choosy?
I’ll lose them all anyway
So, on I mend his failures
to his failures
Made a monster the town mob intends to ignite
but, Lux Paterna, it’s so warm in the torchlight
so it’s too early for that now
Looking like jokers, touch all over
We need it but it’s not right
Those are the lines and these are our
little star cardboard costumes
And, oh, to be cast after
being shoved upon and shoved away
Strung us up high, nobody taught
you to hear what was said sotto voce
but it was too early for that
And I’d like to move on, so I’ll just say it once
Why does it seem like the right thing to do
is never up to the grown-up?
And all the real orphans forgiving
being deemed irrecoverable
Always the fear of demeaning the homeland
Look up–you’re someone’s benefit of the doubt
Not trying to earn it is all roses cut down
And it’s too early for that now
It’s too early for that now
It’s too early for that now
It’s too early for that now

You know, it wasn't my favorite for a while, but for some reason i decided to listen to it on loop a few weeks ago and now I can't stop thinking about it.
I love the synths, the tone, the lyricism, even the music videos which I feel I should mention!!!
(also, should've been me reminds me a bit of abba which is an automatic bonus in my book) praisedrays

The great underlying instrumentation paired with Florence's droll stream of consciousness lyrics make this album stand out. It feels so personal and confessional. Favorite tracks are Strong Feelings and Leafy. I've heard Scratchard Lanyard on alt radio and love that one as well. tofupotpie

This is thoughtful and melancholy, but not morose -- there is hope in its sheer beauty. Her sensitivity as an arranger and producer is as impressive as her songwriting and singing; the whole album has a lovely sense of texture and space. Joe Madden
Portland shoegaze that plays, as the best representatives of the genre do, with huge, hollow atmosphere against intimate observations. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 23, 2016
Dreamlike songs from this London artist with gentle vocal melodies gliding through cloudy layers of guitar and synth. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 10, 2022

Goose Bumps... how can a record take you on such a journey?!? This one just does for me... I feel like she's in my mind at times... Love this record so much... and exhale! Vinyl-222
